The Boyd Legacy project was founded by Nicole Brenny in collaboration with the City of Boyd and the local soil & water district. It is part prairie conservation, part historic preservation. The inspiration behind the project was to leave a legacy for future generations that was filled with hope and abundance.
Every area that was planted had previously been turf grass, a plant that offers little to no benefit for pollinators, especially native pollinators which include endangered species. Throughout the course of this project, Boyd residents alongside employees from the Lac qui parle Soil and Water District worked diligently to transform these turf grass areas into stunning native gardens that are not only visually appealing, but also leave a legacy of food and habitat for pollinators of all shapes and sizes.
The plantings were completed in the spring of 2024 and the first tour of the garden was hosted on June 27, 2024. The historical preservation component of the project will begin in 2026.
